Saturday, October 9th, 1982: Washington, Veteran Devine Sign Deal
BNN reports that the Washington Woodpeckers have just agreed with reliever Adrian Devine on a contract extension.

The total value is $3,600,000 for 3 years, which equals $1,200,000 per season.

Devine has compiled an ERA of 3.93 so far this season, winning 4 games with 1 loss and 1 save. In 60 relief appearances he has hurled 73.1 innings, yielded 69 hits and struck out 24. Opposing hitters have batted .253 against Devine.
Friday, October 1st, 1982: Holland Hurt, Out for Year
Doctors in Washington said Al Holland may not play anymore this year. The Woodpeckers closer received a hyperextended elbow during a game against the Baltimore Blue Crabs and will be out for at least 5-6 weeks. Club officials told BNN they did not expect him to return to the team this season.

Holland has nailed down 30 saves to date. In 48.1 innings he has fanned 37 batters and walked 19. His pitching record is 1 win and 4 losses with a 1.12 ERA.
Friday, October 1st, 1982: September's Outstanding AL Rookie Announced
Charlie Puleo has become a big Washington fan favorite, especially during the last month when the pitching phenom racked up a 5-0 record, making him the easy choice for September's American League Rookie of the Month Award.

He notched 34 strikeouts in 45.1 innings as he compiled a 1.99 ERA and held opponents to a .158 batting average.

On his stats sheet this season Puleo shows a 11-5 record, 21 starts, 150 innings, 99 strikeouts and a 3.24 ERA.
