Thursday, October 7th, 1982: Rogers Hornsby's .379 Average Tops in AL
This year's American League batting title went to Rogers Hornsby of the Blue Crabs. During the regular season he slapped out hits at a .379 pace (240-633) to win the honor. The 30-year-old Baltimore second baseman played in 162 games and had 35 home runs, 134 RBIs and scored 131 runs.

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 30-year-old Rogers Hornsby put together a solid offensive month for Baltimore and was crowned September's top batter in the American League.

He batted .472 with 9 home runs, 24 RBIs and 28 runs scored.



Hornsby is hitting .382 so far this season with 132 RBIs and 129 runs scored. He has 237 hits including 34 home runs, 81 walks and .453 OBP.

His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Rogers Hornsby was rewarded with the American League Player of the Week honors.

The scrappy Baltimore Blue Crabs second baseman hit .480 while collecting 12 hits in 25 at-bats, 3 home runs and 6 RBIs.
