But a 5-hit game only comes around once in a blue moon. It happened at Bomber Field when Rube Baker of Battle Creek scattered 5 hits all over the ballpark against the Detroit Red Wings.
He walloped 5 hits in 7 at-bats in his career-day performance to help the Bombers get by the Red Wings 7-6.
In a talkative and jovial mood after the game, the catcher of the Bombers exclaimed, "Whoa, my swing was really, really there today. I made some good, sweet-spot contact and when that happens... good things happen... like 5-7. I could get used to a lot of days like this one."
R. Baker hit a two-run home run off J. Reuss in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, flied out in the 6th, singled in the 9th, singled in the 11th and struck out in the 13th.
This year Baker is batting .272 with 141 hits and 21 home runs. He has scored 68 times and has batted in 69 runs. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | CF Willie Mays | torn abdominal muscle | 6 months | 22 day(s) left (60-day DL) | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 77-87, .470 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 28.0 GB | | Record at home | 38-45, .458 PCT | | Record on the road | 39-42, .481 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 9-7, .563 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 21-20, .512 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 19-40, .322 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 58-47, .552 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 7-3, .700 PCT | | Record in April | 9-13, .409 PCT | | Record in May | 17-11, .607 PCT | | Record in June | 15-12, .556 PCT | | Record in July | 9-17, .346 PCT | | Record in August | 13-16, .448 PCT | | Record in September | 10-17, .370 PCT | | Record in October | 4-1, .800 PCT |
