| Breaking News | | Friday, October 1st, 1982: NL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Bill Doran was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 24-year-old second baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen September's National League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.
In 25 games Doran batted .352 for Los Angeles, slapping 37 hits in 105 at-bats with 4 home runs, drove in 15 runs and scored 19 times.
Looking at his 1982 season stats, Doran has compiled a .317 batting average in 113 games with a .398 on-base percentage, while hitting 13 home runs and driving in 55 runs.

 | Tuesday, September 28th, 1982: Baker Keeps Hit Streak Alive
Rube Baker of the Battle Creek Bombers extended his hitting string to 20 straight games with 2 hits in today's 7-0 triumph over the Los Angeles Devil Dogs at Bomber Field.
R. Baker flied out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, flied out in the 5th and singled in the 7th.
For the year Baker is batting .284 with 162 hits and 27 home runs. He has scored 76 times and driven in 85.

Christy Mathewson of the Los Angeles Devil Dogs not only shut out Battle Creek 3-0, he made it look effortless. Mathewson stopped them on 4 hits to help the Devil Dogs cruise past the Bombers. His performance included 5 strikeouts and 2 walks.
This season Mathewson has a 17-8 record with a 2.73 ERA.
